Andre Berends and Petar Parushev presented the Safety Gate data that can be used for all challenges of the EU Datathon 2021. Safety Gate is the European rapid alert system for non-food products that pose a risk to the health and safety of consumers. Unsafe products are identified by the European Commission Market Surveillance Authorities (MSAs) which creates alerts on the Safety Gate portal. On 14 May, the EU Datathon 2021 hosted their third webinar featuring Eugeniu Costechi who presented the Euro-COVID19 dataset for Natural Language Processing (NLP). This dataset can be used for tackling all challenges of the EU Datathon. Eugeniu talked about the SemCovid project, funded by the Publications Office of the European Union. Per Nymand-Andersen from the European Central Bank presented this dataset, which addresses challenge 2: ‘An economy that works for the people’. The EU Datathon is an annual open data competition open to data enthusiasts worldwide. To enter the competition, participants are invited to send ideas for applications that use open datasets and address one of three thematic challenges, aligned with the priorities of the European Commission.
