A recap of our data provider’s workshop: Two insightful days in Paris

40 participants shared insights and connected through open data

Last week we hosted an exciting event in Paris! On 12 and 13 November, a workshop designed to bring data providers from across Europe together, counted with the attendance of 40 participants from 22 different countries. For two days, there was a mix of presentations and moments of interaction between the data providers, which led to many new insights.

On the first day, after a word of introduction by the Publications Office of the European Union, there was a keynote speech by the French Interministerial Directorate for Digital Services (DINUM) about their data.gouv.fr open data platform. The day continued with the first presentation on the policy landscape in the EU by the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT). This was followed by a session on High-Value Datasets (HVDs), where attendees could discuss challenges and where doubts were cleared about the reporting standards starting from February 2025. The differences between the HVD Implementing Regulation and the INSPIRE legislation were also touched upon, to address concerns from data providers.

Before dinner, country representatives could discuss their opportunities and challenges to knowledge sharing during an interactive session on the knowledge sharing market, followed by a speech from the head of DINUM. The second day kicked off with a presentation on our report on the role of AI followed by another interactive session where Switzerland, Bosnia, and Albania showed their innovations using AI. The day ended with a presentation by the Publications Office on how high-quality metadata is supported by data.europa.eu

We would like to thank all the participants for their enthusiasm, DINUM for the great hosting, DG CNECT for their valuable insights, and the colleagues of the Publications Office for organising the event! We believe these moments create a better connection between European countries and contribute to greater usage of open data, stay tuned for the next workshop!
